Richard Cornelius Kukula (born March 25, 1862 in Laibach ; † April 6, 1919 in Graz ) was an Austrian philologist and professor of classical philology.

Life

Kukula was born as the son of the teacher Wilhelm Kukula (1833-1909) in Ljubljana (today Ljubljana ) and attended school there. After graduating from high school , he studied classical philology at the University of Prague and then at the University of Vienna . During his studies he was active in Prague with Corps Austria and in Vienna with Corps Saxonia Vienna . In 1885 he passed the teaching exams in Latin, Greek and French and received his doctorate in the same year. phil. He received his first professional job as a supplement in Klagenfurt, after which he worked as a high school professor at the Sophiengymnasium in Vienna. In 1904 he completed his habilitation at the University of Vienna as a private lecturer in classical philology. In 1905 he went to Graz University as an associate professor , where he was appointed full professor in 1909.

In addition to his teaching activities, Kukula was also a member of the commission for the publication of the writings of the Latin Church Fathers at the Austrian Academy of Sciences. He was unable to complete an edition of the works of Augustine that he had started because of his death.
