Walter Poetscher

Walter Pötscher (born December 22, 1928 in Vienna , † December 2, 2004 ibid) was an Austrian classical philologist .

Pötscher studied classical philology at the University of Vienna , where he received his doctorate in 1953 . He then worked as a grammar school teacher in Vienna and held courses at the University of Salzburg at the same time . Here he completed his habilitation in 1966 and was appointed associate professor in 1971. In 1982 he moved to the University of Graz as a full professor and professor , where he worked until his retirement (1997).

For his scientific merits, Pötscher was awarded the Austrian Cross of Honor for Science and Art 1st Class and the Gold Medal of Honor of the Federal Capital Vienna . On the occasion of his 70th birthday, Joachim Dalfen , Gerhard Petersmann and Franz Ferdinand Schwarz published the Festschrift Religio Graeco-Romana in his honor in 1998 . Pötscher was buried at the Inzersdorfer Friedhof (group 19, row 10, number 15) in Vienna.
