Daring Opponents (Original Title: Ride, Vaquero! ) Is an American western starring Robert Taylor and Ava Gardner from 1953.
action
After the Civil War , American farmers settle in the Texas border region. However, the Mexican desperado José Esqueda and his men are determined to drive the settlers out again. They do not even shrink from robbery and murder. José's brother Rio, an American whom José's mother once found and raised, is reluctant to support José's plan. After José burned down the house of the rancher King Cameron, the latter calls for resistance to José's gang.
When Cameron has rebuilt his house, José sends his brother and other men to burn down the house again. Cameron and his wife Cordelia stand up to them and are ready to defend their belongings. Several rangers arrive just in time and prevent the situation from escalating. Cameron manages to capture Rio. But instead of handing him over to the rangers, he suggests a partnership with Rio. Rio is also supposed to help him bring horses from Mexico across the border. Contrary to expectations, Rio accepts Cameron's offer and travels with him to Mexico. When José finds out about this, he gets angry. However, he apologizes for his brother's behavior, as he apparently only joined Cameron because he was in love with Cordelia.
Cordelia, who was initially skeptical of Rio and his intentions, is beginning to trust him. One day she asks him to take her to José. When they arrive at his camp together, Cordelia begs José to end his terror. But José doesn't even think about stopping his raids. Furious, Cordelia reaches for his gun and threatens to shoot him. However, José gives her to understand that his death would also cost Rio his life, which is why Cordelia ultimately decides not to pull the trigger. She realizes that she has fallen in love with Rio. When she kisses him later, however, he slaps her on the face.
Meanwhile, José plans to attack a small American town. Together with his gang, he sets off. When they arrive in town, they shoot the local sheriff and rob the bank. After a drinking binge, José also wants to kill Rio, Cameron and Cordelia. However, when the cavalry and Cameron arrive to restore law and order, José's men flee. José himself stays behind to kill Cameron. After wounding him with several shots and preparing to take him down completely, Rio appears and aims his gun at his brother. In the subsequent shootout between José and Rio, both are killed. Cameron then returns to Cordelia.
