The Rieseberg is a nature reserve in the Lower Saxony town of Königslutter am Elm in the Helmstedt district .

The nature reserve with the registration number NSG BR 057 is 173  hectares in size. It is congruent with the FFH area of the same name . The 19 hectare "Rieseberg" natural forest reserve, designated in 1974, is part of the nature reserve. The area, which to the north, east and south of the conservation area borders "Middle Schunter", is since November 16, 1983 under protection. The responsible lower nature conservation authority is the Helmstedt district.

The nature reserve is located in the hill country of East Brunswick northwest of Königslutter between the districts of Scheppau, Rieseberg and Lauingen within the Elm-Lappwald nature park . It places a forest area on the hill of the same name under protection, which is 158  m above sea level. Reached NHN .

The forest area is characterized by mixed deciduous forest. Near-natural oak and hornbeam forests are widespread . Pure beech forest only occurs occasionally on the highest peaks . Small areas of pine forests can also be found in the southeast of the nature reserve . Most of the forests have a well-developed herbaceous layer . Semi-arid grassland and quarries can be found in places .

The nature reserve is the habitat for numerous endangered animal and plant species. Numerous plant species also reach their northern limit of distribution here .

A forest adventure trail run by the Open-Air and Adventure Museum Ostfalen (FEMO) leads through the Rieseberg nature reserve .
