Robby Muller
Robby Müller (born April 4, 1940 in Willemstad , Curaçao , † July 3, 2018 in Amsterdam ) was a Dutch cameraman . He was best known for his work on the early works of Wim Wenders .
Life
His father was in the oil business and traveled extensively with the family. The son learned early on with his father's second camera, who was an avid amateur filmmaker. Müller studied camera and editing at the Nederlandse Film en Televisie Academie in Amsterdam from 1962 to 1964 . However, he quickly oriented himself to Germany by becoming an assistant to Gérard Vandenberg , who was working as a cameraman for New German Film at the time.
Hans W. Geißendörfer took him over in 1968 as cameraman in his first television film Der Fall Lena Christ , after which he mainly worked with Wim Wenders. In the 1980s he worked almost exclusively in the USA.
He won the German Gold Film Prize three times and the Bavarian Film Prize once . In 1984 he was awarded the Golden Camera for Paris, Texas .
In 1988 he was a member of the jury at the Cannes Film Festival . In 2003 he was one of the founding members of the German Film Academy .
Robby Müller died in Amsterdam in July 2018 at the age of 78.
