Ralph Arthur Roberts
Ralph Arthur Roberts (* October 2, 1884 as Robert Arthur Schönherr in Meerane ; † March 12, 1940 in Berlin ) worked as a director , idea generator, screenwriter , but especially as an actor in many German feature films. He was also a stage writer and in 1928 head of the Berlin theater in Behrenstraße .
Life
The son of the baker Carl Robert Schönherr and his wife Berta Elisabeth geb. König grew up in Dresden , attended the Neustädter Gymnasium and took acting lessons from Adolf Winds . In 1903 he made his debut at the Residenztheater Wiesbaden . He played temporarily at the Trianon Theater in Berlin and at the Schauspielhaus Breslau . From 1907 he can be traced back to Hamburg, where he became a member of the Thalia Theater in 1909 .
After taking part in the war as an officer, he continued to play at the Thalia Theater, where he also directed. In 1921 he took over the management of the Komödienhaus in Berlin, and in 1928 he opened his own theater on Behrenstrasse. There he repeatedly premiered pieces he wrote himself. He wrote a number of internationally successful comedies together with his in-house author Leo Lenz .
In addition, the man with the monocle took on numerous supporting roles in films. Mostly he played men of rank such as directors and entrepreneurs. Above all, his comical traits are known, which he was able to play to a high degree of self-irony, for example as the public prosecutor in The Muzzle and as King Karl X in Dance on the Volcano .
The waltz song composed and written by him on the Reeperbahn at half past twelve was mainly due to the classic film Große Freiheit No. 7 from 1943/44 with Hans Albers , Ilse Werner , Hans Söhnker , Gustav Knuth and others. a. famous. Furthermore, it was also in the film Auf der Reeperbahn at half past twelve from 1954 with Hans Albers, Heinz Rühmann , Gustav Knuth and others. a. used. Ralph Arthur Roberts composed this classic in 1912 for his revue "Bunt ist die Welt".
He died of oyster poisoning and was buried in the south-west cemetery in Stahnsdorf .
