Robert J. Wynne

Robert John Wynne (born November 18, 1851 in New York City , † March 11, 1922 in Washington, DC ) was an American politician ( Republican Party ), who held the office of US Postal Secretary in the cabinet of President Theodore Roosevelt .

Robert Wynne lost his father at a young age. So he had to look after the family and found a job in a telegraph office. In this profession he rose over time and eventually made it to Chief telegraph operator at the Atlantic and Pacific Telegraph Company . He later moved to Washington to work as a telegraph for the Cincinnati Gazette .

Politics first came in 1891 when Robert Wynne became the personal secretary of US Treasury Secretary Charles Foster , for whom he served until Benjamin Harrison's presidency ended in 1893. He then returned to the newspaper industry.

In 1902, Wynne finally became a member of the government. He was named Deputy Postmaster General before becoming Minister in Roosevelt's Cabinet in 1904 after the death of Henry C. Payne . He filled this post until 1905; after the end of President Roosevelt's first term in office, he appointed Wynne as consul of the United States in Great Britain . He stayed that way until 1909.
