Robert von Wurmb

Günther Friedrich Karl Robert von Wurmb (born May 12, 1835 in Sondershausen , † September 18, 1911 in Biebrich am Rhein ) was a Prussian lieutenant general .

Life

origin

He came from the old Thuringian noble family von Wurmb and was the son of the councilor Moritz von Wurmb (1804–1864) and his wife Karoline, née von Blei (1810–1856).

Military career

Wurmb attended secondary school and high school in his hometown. On March 21, 1853, he volunteered in the 31st Infantry Regiment . As porter ensign he was transferred to the 29th Infantry Regiment on June 14, 1856 and promoted to second lieutenant on February 10, 1857 . As such, Wurmb was assigned to the mobile 29th Landwehr Regiment during the mobilization on the occasion of the Sardinian War . During the war against Austria in 1866 he took part in the fighting at Hühnerwasser , Münchengrätz and Königgrätz . After the peace treaty , Wurmb was transferred to the Anhalt Infantry Regiment No. 93 on September 29, 1867 . Initially as a commander , after his promotion to captain as company commander , Wurmb fought during the war against France in 1870/71 at Toul , Beaumont and Sedan . For his achievements during the siege of Paris he was awarded the Iron Cross 2nd class. In the further course of his military career he was from December 13, 1888 to July 30, 1891 commander of the 3rd Grand Ducal Hessian Infantry Regiment (Leib-Regiment) No. 117 in Mainz . Subsequently, he was employed as the commandant of the Küstrin Fortress and finally Wurmb served as the commandant of Koblenz and Ehrenbreitstein until his departure in 1895 .

family

Wurmb was married twice: from 1862 to Dorothea von Lüde (1836–1871) and from 1873 to E. Laurentz Campbell of Craignish (* 1836). The children Hans (* 1863), Else (* 1864), Hertha (* 1865) and Kurt (* 1869) from the first marriage, from the second marriage Asta (* 1873), Lothar (* 1875) and Oskar (* 1877).
