He entered the Würzburg seminary , where Josef Stangl Regens , whom he knew, was. In 1963 he was ordained a priest in Würzburg by the new Bishop of Würzburg Josef Stangl. He spent the first seven months as a chaplain in Retzstadt . He was a close friend of Bishop Jacques Gaillot .

Breitenbach received the Franconian cube in 1999 . In the laudatory speech, Franz Vogt , District President of Lower Franconia, stated: "Breitenbach is now at least as familiar with the minced meat ordinance as he is with the Holy Scriptures, because he is also an IHK-certified innkeeper, chef at Schweinfurt's 'Löwenzahn', Employer for almost no chance and meanwhile the 'island' in the Schweinfurt market hall has been added. "

Breitenbach's first book publication was Zeit des Glücks, which he wrote at the request of the Mainz publisher Laubach. In 1990 he published his book Der kleine Bischof, which originally appeared as a serial novel in the service journal of his Schweinfurt parish and has since been reprinted several times in an expanded form. In addition to 50 books, he wrote articles in Lower Franconian newspapers and a regular column in an advertising paper. It was primarily through these publications that he was perceived as a church critic both inside and outside his church .
