Roman Sadnik

Roman Sadnik (born February 26, 1963 in Vienna ) is an Austrian opera singer ( tenor ).

Sadnik first completed an acting training before he decided to become a singer. He studied singing at the Vienna University of Music with Kammersänger (KS) Walter Berry . He then continued his studies with private tuition from KS Hugh Beresford . After completing his training, he was hired directly to the opera studio of the Vienna State Opera at the beginning of the 1989/90 season . In November 1989 he worked at the opera studio of the Vienna State Opera in the world premiere of Beat Furrer's opera Die Blinden . In April / May 1990 he sang at the Vienna State Opera in the opera The Soldiers . In 1991 he sang the Creon in Medea in a production of the free Viennese music theater ensemble "Art Nouveau Theater", which was premiered in the theater on the grounds of the psychiatric hospital at Steinhof . In 1992 he appeared at the Laxenburg Cultural Summer, where he sang the “cleverly clever” servant Peppo (in the original: Martino) in the Rossini opera L'occasione fa il ladro with “a distinctive, powerful bass baritone”. In the 1992/93 season he took on Captain Sulpice at the Innsbruck State Theater in a new production of Donizetti's opera The Regiment's Daughter (director: Kirsten Harms ). In the 1992/93 season he also sang the bass-baritone part of Mustafa Bey in the Rossini opera L'italiana in Algeri at the Biel-Solothurn Theater . From the 1990s to around 2000/2001, Sadnik worked full-time as an acting and singing teacher in Vienna.

After changing subject, Sadnik initially sang in the role of "Lirico Spinto". He finally expanded his repertoire through the “youthful dramatic tenor” to become a heroic tenor .

In 2002 he sang the title role in the opera Cyrano de Bergerac by Franco Alfano at the Kiel Opera House . In 2003 he was heard as Don Cesar in the rarely performed opera Donna Diana by Emil Nikolaus von Reznicek at the Kiel Opera House . In summer 2005 he sang the role of Cavaradossi in Tosca at the Gut Immling Chiemgau Opera Festival at Gut Immling . In the summer of 2006 he was a guest at the Festival d'Aix-en-Provence ; he sang the First Armored Person in Mozart's opera The Magic Flute . In May 2007 he made his debut at the Nederlandse Opera in Amsterdam as Menaldo Negroni in Franz Schreker's opera Die Gezeichen . In summer 2007 he sang the role of Jean Valjean in the musical Les Misérables at the Steyr Music Festival . In the 2008/09 season Roman Sadnik made his debut at the Vienna Volksoper as Rittmeister Othmar Brandstetter in the Kehraus opera around St. Stephan by Ernst Krenek , a co-production with the Bregenz Festival . He repeated this role there in the 2009/10 season. At the Landestheater Niederbayern he took on the title role in Verdi's opera Otello in 2009 . In the 2009/10 season he sang at the Opéra de Lyon (painter / negro in Lulu ), in Amsterdam (De Nederlandse Opera; Nick in La fanciulla del West ), at La Scala in Milan (as painter / negro), at the Gdansk Opera House (Title role in Tristan und Isolde ) and at the Teatro Massimo Bellini in Catania (as Aegisth in Elektra ). At the Wiener Festwochen in June 2010 he was also the painter in Lulu (director: Peter Stein ).

In September 2010 he sang the double role of Mephistopheles / Agrippa von Nettesheim for the first time in Sergej Prokofiev's opera Der feurige Engel in the Concertgebouw Amsterdam . In the 2010/11 season he sang the role of Count Heinrich in Franz Schreker's opera Irrelohe at the Bonn Opera House . In the 2010/11 season he took on the title role in Parsifal at the Teatro Massimo Bellini in Catania and at the Tallinn Festival (August 2011). In March / April 2011 he was the first to be heard in Mozart's Die Zauberflöte at La Scala in Milan .

In the 2011/12 season he performed a. a. as Tannhäuser at the Bremen Opera House , as Der Bucklige in Die Frau ohne Schatten at La Scala in Milan (March 2012, conductor: Marc Albrecht ) and in April / May 2012 as Laca in Jenůfa at the National Theater in Zagreb. In June / July 2012 he sang the drum major in Wozzeck at the Bavarian State Opera in Munich , and also at the Munich Opera Festival .

In March 2013 he sang Herod in Salome at the Grand Theater of Bordeaux ; Tristan followed in May / June 2013 at the Magdeburg Theater . In September 2013 he sang Elis in Franz Schreker's opera Der Schatzgräber at the Bruckner Festival in Linz . Also in the 2013/14 season he sang the drum major at the Bavarian State Opera in October 2013. In January 2014 he made his debut at the Opéra Bastille as Nick in Puccini's La Fanciulla del West ; his partner as Minnie was Nina Stemme . In spring 2014 he made guest appearances in Tokyo , as drum major (March / April 2014); He was also the cover for Paul in Die tote Stadt (February / March 2014). In June 2014 he sang the role of Burgvogts Schweiker von Gundelfingen in two concert performances of Richard Strauss ' one act Feuersnot at the Vienna Volksoper.

In the summer of 2014 he sang the host in Richard Strauss' opera Der Rosenkavalier at the Salzburg Festival under the musical direction of Franz Welser-Möst ; he repeated this role in summer 2015 at the Salzburg Festival.

In November 2014 he sang the role of Tikhon in Katja Kabanowa at the Moravian-Silesian National Theater in Ostrava . In March 2015 he made his scenic role debut as Paul in Die tote Stadt at the Freiburg Theater . In 2015 he sang Herodes in Salome at the Bonn Opera . In November 2015 he made his debut as Mephistopheles / Agrippa von Nettesheim at the Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires .

Sadnik also works as a concert singer. Here he sang in particular the tenor roles in Gustav Mahler's Das Lied von der Erde and in his 8th Symphony , as well as the Verdi Requiem in Hamburg and Munich. Sadnik took part in various CD productions. Live recordings of the operas Cyrano de Bergerac and Donna Diana from the Kiel Opera House are available. He also recorded the Missa dalmatica by Franz von Suppè (2010).
