Novel factory

The Romanfabrik is a non-profit association sponsored by the City of Frankfurt and the State of Hesse. Above all, a program is organized with readings by authors and concerts in the fields of chanson, classical and jazz.

history

The Roman factory, founded in 1985, with its event cellar was located at Uhlandstraße 21 until 1998, before moving into the much larger rooms on the Union area in Hanauer Landstraße in autumn 1999 .

From 1985 to 1990 the "Novel Factory Writer Prize" could be awarded. Peter Kurzck , Claudia Keller , Jamal Tuschick , Christa Hein and Felicitas Kohring received a monthly check and free living in the backyard half-timbered house.

In 1993 the novel factory initiated a book collection campaign for the reconstruction of the National and University Library of Sarajevo and became a German member of the UNESCO commission for the reconstruction of the library. Around 11,000 scientific and literary titles were collected.

The competition “New German Chanson”, called “Zarah”, had its first prize-winner in 1998, Tina Teubner , and the three-day festival was held in the following four years. The jury chairmen were Klaus Hoffmann , Erika Pluhar , Ulla Meinecke and Manfred Maurenbrecher ; the winners were Marianne Iser and Thomas Duda, Zimtfisch, Schall und Hauch and Ko J. Kokott.

From 1997 to 1999 the Romanfabrik published the world's first literary stocks, designed in limited editions by Robert Gernhardt , Chlodwig Poth and FK Waechter . The dividend was paid out in the form of a donation receipt and one year of reduced admission.

Since September 2007 the electronic culture letter has been published ten times a year: "Text - Sound - Topic". Each culture letter begins with an original contribution (glosses, essays, poems) by writers, poets, journalists, publishers and other cultural workers and also contains detailed information on the monthly program and cultural tips.

Regular cooperation partners are the Frankfurt Jazz Initiative, the Institut Français , the Instituto Cervantes , the Swiss Consulate General and the US Consulate General in Frankfurt .

From 2009 to 2013 the Roman factory organized the international literature festival "Metropolitan - The Narrated City" every two years. The international approach of this series is continued to this day with the series "Romanfabrik International". Other series were the "Musical Dialogues" and the "Oulipo Workshop". The latter has documented her playful writing workshop in a book: “OuLiPo - OuGraPo. An instruction manual ”(2014). The Romanfabrik has been inviting visitors to the “Philosophical Café” since 2014.

In 2014 the Philipp von Zabern publishing house published the book “Romanticism on the Rhine and Main”, edited by Wolfgang Bunzel, Michael Hohmann and Hans Sarkowicz. A topography ”.

In October 2014 the actor Walter Renneisen and the jazz musicians Heinz Sauer and Michael Wollny gave an evening in honor of Ror Wolf in the Romanfabrik . On this occasion, the first publication in the “Edition Romanfabrik” series emerged: “Ror Wolf Collagen”, edited by Michael Hohmann (who also contributed an essay) and Michael Lenz.

The novel factory celebrated its thirtieth birthday in September 2015.

The Romanist Michael Hohmann has been managing director and artistic director since 1992.
