The Rosenbach is a 15 km long brook in the Upper Palatinate in the Amberg-Sulzbach district , which flows north of Amberg from the right and northwest into the Vils near Poppenricht -Altmannshof . It bears its name below the union of its two several kilometers long upper courses, after which it soon passes through the settlement area of the city of Sulzbach-Rosenberg .

Headwaters

Peutenbach source, south of Bernricht (Edelsfeld)

The Rosenbach is called from Prangershof / town Sulzbach-Rosenberg from below / downstream so. It is fed by the two upper reaches of Klafferbach and Erlbach / Mühlbach. The right upper course Klafferbach, which is part of the official main line and has a much larger catchment area, begins its course northwest of the Neukirchen district of Röckenricht and flows south-east throughout. In winter it is mostly dry up to Kummerthal (dry upper reaches). The left upper course Erlbach is called Mühlbach for most of its route. One of its upper reaches is the Peutenbach. The Peutenbach spring is located about 500 m south of the village of Bernricht ( Edelsfeld ) and about 300 m south of the main European watershed . The area around the Peutenbach is also called Peutental. Franz Braun exposed the Peutenbach spring and secured it with boulders. The Peutenbach flows south of the Sulzbach-Rosenberg village of Forsthof into the Mühlbach, which becomes the Erlbach just before the confluence with the Klafferbach.

Run

Weir at the Rosenbach

The body of water, now named Rosenbach, initially continues in the direction of the inlet of the Klafferbach to the edge of the settlement of the city of Sulzbach-Rosenberg. In this first section it is occasionally also called Erlbach - like its left upper course. In the city it runs in a loop to the west just below Sulzbach Castle . Further down, on the town's boundary to the former Maximilianshütte ironworks , the Rosenbach is reinforced by the Breitenbrunner Bach / Spitzerbach from the Sieben Quellen , which flows in from the right , after which it flows eastwards until the end. Shortly after it has crossed the city limits to the municipality of Poppenricht , it flows into the middle Vils from the right at the village of Altmannshof .
