Name customer

The Rotbach was previously called the Biberbach because beavers lived in it. The names of the places in which the water flows, Mittelbiberach and Biberach an der Riss, go back to this older name .

geography

course

The Rotbach rises at about 585  m above sea level. NN in the rail forest around 12 km southwest of Mittelbiberach . From its source the brook flows northeast towards Mittelbiberach. Shortly before the hamlet of Zweifelsberg, it feeds and drains the water on the right at the run at almost 570  m above sea level. 1.1 hectare oil pond lying above sea level . After that, he leaves the forest area in and around the edge of which he has flowed, behind him forever. Further down in Mittelbiberach, it bends to the right and now runs through a southward sweeping, approx. 6 km long river loop, the southernmost point of which is at the municipality of Reute in Wolfental. At the edge of the settlement area of Biberach an der Riss , it then reaches the extension of its upper course and from now on flows north-east through the city again. A little east of the city center it then flows out at around 530  m above sea level. NN into the crack coming from the south and flowing north to the Danube .

In the Wolfental, located between Mittelbiberach and Biberach, the artificially created Wolfentalbach branches off from the Rotbach and flows back into the beginning of Biberach.

Catchment area

The Rotbach drains 58.5 km² in the natural area of the northern Alpine foothills . The greatest heights in the catchment area are on its north and south sides between 630 and a maximum of 639  m above sea level. NN , the latter on a forest knoll north of the hamlet of Streitberg von Biberach.

The catchment area of the Assmannshardter Mühlbach , which flows further down into the Riss, joins the northern watershed . On the east side near the rift that runs from south to north, the smaller and closer lower tributary Langestockgraben drains the adjacent area in the northeast, and further up the artificially created lower city trench of Biberach with its natural left tributaries. The outflow also reaches the Riss behind the southern watershed, directly or further to the southwest via its left tributary, the Federbach . To the west of the Rotbach catchment area, in the Federsee basin, lies the Federsee , which drains into the Danube via the Kanzach above the Riss .
