Rudolph Johann Erasmus Vogel (born October 11, 1847 in Keuschberg , † May 23, 1923 in Oberweiler ) was a doctor, teacher, factory owner and member of the German Reichstag .

Life

Vogel attended the primary school in Zscherben and the secondary school in Halle . After two discontinued apprenticeships , he switched to the Halle pedagogy and then studied philology, German and history in Halle . During his studies he became a member of the Neoborussia Halle country team .

In 1870/71 Vogel took part in the Franco-German War as a one-year volunteer in the 5th company with the Hanoverian Infantry Regiment No. 74 . From 1871 to 1872 he worked as a tutor in Obernkirchen , from 1872 to 1876 as a tutor and journalist in Saint Petersburg and then moved to the University of Marburg . There he met the historian Theodor Ilgen , with whom he had a deep personal and scientific friendship throughout his life. From 1879 to 1880 Vogel worked as a high school teacher in Frankfurt am Main and Mühlhausen .

Around 1880, Vogel and his brother Otto, a student of the chemist Alexander Mitscherlich , opened and operated the first commercial cellulose factory on German soil in Zell im Wiesental . In 1883 he left the factory operations to his brother and studied medicine in Freiburg until 1888 . In 1884 he was co-founder of the Landsmannschaft Septentrionia Freiburg , the later (1885) fraternity Saxo-Silesia Freiburg . From 1890 he was a general practitioner in Oberweiler and from 1893 ran a lung sanatorium there.

From October 1900 to 1903 he was a replacement for Georg Wilhelm Vielhaben member of the German Reichstag for the constituency of Kassel 1 ( Rinteln , Hofgeismar , Wolfhagen ) and the German Social Reform Party . After the end of the electoral term, he withdrew completely from politics.

Together with Ilgen, Vogel wrote a historical treatise on the Thuringian-Hessian War of Succession (critical processing and presentation of the history of the Thuringian-Hessian War of Succession 1247–1264, in: Journal of the Association for Hessian History and Regional Studies, NF 10, 1883, p. 151– 380). In addition, he wrote fairy tales (Spinnweiblein, Verlag Friedrich Andreas Perthes AG), novels (Badenweiler Novellen Si me amas -?, J. Bielefeld Verlag) and songs (Badenweiler song book Gesellige Lieder, self-published).
