Ryan Stassel (born October 23, 1992 in Anchorage ) is an American snowboarder . He starts in the freestyle disciplines.

Career

Stassel has been participating in the Ticket to Ride World Snowboard Tour competitions since 2007 . He won his first race in slopestyle at the US Revolution Tour on Mount Snow in January 2010 . He drove his first World Cup race in Denver in January 2011 , which he finished in 18th place in the Big Air competition. In the same season he finished second on the US Revolution Tour in the Slopestyle in Colorado and first on Mount Snow. At the 2012 Snowboard World Championships in Oslo , he came 19th in Slopestyle. In April 2012 he became national champion in slopestyle. The following season he took second place in Big Air at the Sprint US Snowboarding Grand Prix in Park City . At the 2013 Snowboard World Championships in Stoneham , he came seventh in slopestyle. In his first Olympic participation in Sochi , he came in 14th place in slopestyle. In March 2014, he finished third in slopestyle at the Showcase Showdown in Whistler . At the beginning of the 2014/15 season in Istanbul he achieved fourth place in Big Air, his best place in a World Cup race to date. The FIS Snowboarding World Championships 2015 at Kreischberg , he won gold in the Slopestyle. In the following season he achieved four top ten placements in the World Cup and in Québec with third place in Big Air his first podium finish in the World Cup. He achieved sixth place in the Big Air World Cup and the Slopestyle World Cup and fifth place in the Freestyle World Cup. At the Snowboard World Championships 2016 in Yabuli he came in 12th place in slopestyle and ninth place in Big Air. In the 2016/17 season he was third in Big Air at the World Cup in Alpensia Resort and in Copper Mountain and second in Slopestyle on Kreischberg and thus achieved sixth place in the Freestyle World Cup and fifth place in the Big Air World Cup. At the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang , he finished 35th in slopestyle and 26th in big air.

In the 2018/19 season, Stassel finished in the top ten five times in the World Cup, ninth place in the Freestyle World Cup and fourth place in the Slopestyle World Cup.
