It is located in the north of the city and borders on P'yŏngsŏng , the capital of the province of P'yŏngan-namdo , in the east . South of Ryongsŏng-guyŏk are the districts Ŭnjŏng-guyŏk and Samsŏk-guyŏk , east of Taesŏng-guyŏk . In the west, the districts of Hyŏngjesan-guyŏk and Sunan-guyŏk border.
Ryongsŏng-guyŏk was established as a municipality in September 1959 from several administrative districts of the former Sunan-gun County. In contrast to the city center, the suburb is usually not accessible to foreigners and tourists.
Buildings and facilities
The area is primarily used for agriculture and as an industrial site. There are also several offices of the North Korean Ministry of State Security and the DPRK-Cuba Friendship Hwasong Cooperative Farm in the district.
The ruler Kim Jong-il and his sister Kim Kyŏng-hŭi as well as her husband Chang Sung-taek own their residences on a common area in Ryongsŏng. The complex was built in the early 1980s by the Korean People's Army , which also has some facilities in the immediate vicinity.
Kim Jong-il took part in a training session of the North Korean People's Army from August 20 to October 4, 1962 in a camp in Ryongsŏng. In 1979, the site was expanded to a historical site for visitors, the Oun Revolution Site, in which, among other things, the former accommodation of Kim can be seen and his activities there are honored.
Administrative division
Ryongsŏng-guyŏk is divided into twelve administrative units, the dongs . The districts of Ryongung-dong, Ryongsong-dong and Ryongchu-dong are in turn divided into two administrative units each.
