Sŏngyo-guyŏk is one of the 18 boroughs of Pyongyang , the capital of North Korea . The district is bordered by Tongdaew -n-guyk to the north, Ryŏkp'o-guyŏk and Sadong-guyŏk to the east, and Rakrang-guyŏk to the south . It was established as a municipality in September 1959.
The Taedong Bridge and the Yanggak Bridge connect the district with Chung-guyŏk, north of Taedong-gang, and Yanggak Island . The district itself is cut through by a moat.
Buildings and facilities
The district was also designed as an industrial location after the post- Korean war reconstruction in the 1950s.
The Jangchung Cathedral is located in the district of Changchung . It is the seat of the Catholic Bishop of the Pyongyang Diocese in North Korea and one of the four Christian churches in North Korea. In the Taehung-dong district is the Pyongyang Han Tok Su University of Light Industry and the Sŏngyo market, a central wholesale market in the district.

Administrative division
Sŏngyo-guyŏk is divided into twelve administrative units, the dongs . The districts of Namsin-dong, Changchung-dong, Ryulgok-dong, Mujin-dong, Kangan-dong and Sanop-dong are in turn divided into two, the districts of Tungme-dong and Songyo-dong into three administrative units.
