Søren Nils Eichberg

Søren Nils Eichberg (born July 23, 1973 in Stuttgart ) is a German - Danish composer , pianist and conductor .

Artistic career

Eichberg studied piano and composition at the Royal Danish Music Academy in Copenhagen with Tom Ernst and Friedrich Gürtler as well as piano and conducting at the Cologne University of Music with Arbo Valdma and Michael Luig .

His breakthrough came in 2001 when his violin concerto Qilaatersorneq was awarded first prize in the Queen Elisabeth Competition . In 2010 he was named the first composer in residence in the history of the Danish Radio Symphony Orchestra . Hilary Hahn recorded his composition Levitation for Deutsche Grammophon for their album The Hilary Hahn Encores , which won a Grammy Award in 2014. He received other commissions from the Ensemble Modern , the Mahler Chamber Orchestra and the ARD competition .

Eichberg's SciFi opera Glare premiered in November 2014 at the Royal Opera House , Covent Garden in London and received further productions at the Koblenz Theater and through the en: Riksteatern in Jönköping and Stockholm. His opera, Schönerland, about escape and home, premiered in 2017 at the Wiesbaden State Theater . In 2017 he was nominated for the German Music Author Award in the "Symphonic" category. For the 2020 Music Author Award, he was appointed jury spokesman and juror for the "Music Theater" category. His works are published by Universal Edition and Edition Wilhelm Hansen (MusicSales).

As a conductor he worked with the Northwest German Philharmonic, Hofer Symphoniker, Prussian Chamber Orchestra, Berliner Symphoniker, Soloist Ensemble Kaleidoskop, Austrian Ensemble for New Music and members of the Munich and Berlin Philharmonic.

Life

Eichberg grew up in Denmark and now lives in Berlin . He is the son of Henning Eichberg .
