The southern Priwall is a nature reserve in the Schleswig-Holstein city ​​of Lübeck .

The approximately 149 hectare nature reserve is registered with the number 178 in the directory of nature reserves of the Ministry of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Areas. It was expelled in 1998 (date of regulation: August 19, 1998). The nature reserve is almost completely part of the FFH area "Traveförde and adjacent areas". The water areas in the nature reserve are part of the EU bird sanctuary "Traveförde". The responsible lower nature conservation authority is the city of Lübeck.

The nature reserve, which consists of two partial areas, is located on the Priwall peninsula in Lübeck's Travemünde district . It protects the remainder of a spit hook and the adjacent 100 meter wide shallow water zones of the Pötenitzer Wiek . The western sub-area comprises the area between the Untertrave and the Schleswig-Holstein Seemannsschule, the eastern sub-area the area between the Seemannsschule and the camping site on the Pötenitzer Wiek.

The nature reserve is characterized by wet forests, sea ​​buckthorn bushes , brackish reed beds , small bodies of water, lean grass fields and dry grassland, as well as remains of salt marshes . The forest areas have not been managed since they were placed under protection. In the western part of the nature reserve there is a centrally located, around 30 hectare wet meadow with numerous wet areas and söllen . The meadow is extensively grazed with horses and thus kept open. It is the habitat for tree frogs and grass snakes . Various dragonflies also live here. The open meadow is a breeding ground for redshank , lapwing and wagtail . It is also used as a hunting ground for bats .

The brackish cane found in the south of the nature reserve are inundated by the Baltic Sea during floods . Here u. a. Coastal angelica , beach ledges and crab claws . The reed beds are the habitat of rare species of moths . An approximately 2.5 hectare bank area is grazed with heather sheep and Pomeranian sheep to keep the bank vegetation short and to allow water birds to go ashore.

The area is important as a resting area for migrating waterbirds and waders as well as a wintering area for waterfowl. So here are u. a. Mountain , heron , haddock , spoon , whistling and Pochard and Bläss- and Bean Goose , Goosander and whooper swan found.

Part of the Priwall hiking trail runs through the nature reserve, which is looked after by the Dummersdorfer Ufer landscape conservation association. The area of ​​the sewage treatment plant in the northwest of the nature reserve is excluded from the scope of the nature conservation ordinance.
