SAM was a German hip-hop - Duo from Ochsenhausen . It consisted of the two brothers Chelo (* 1989 ) (DJ) and Samson Benjamin "Sam" Wieland (* July 17, 1990 ; † November 9, 2018 ) (rap).

Career

The two brothers grew up in Ochsenhausen as the sons of a Zambian mother and a German father. Up to the age of 16 both had music lessons in the music school and were trained on guitar , piano and drums , among other things . They were enthusiastic about basketball in their youth and were about to move to the United States for a sports career. Another passion was hip hop. Chelo, the older of the two brothers, began to dabble in DJing while Samson became the duo's rapper. You decide on the name SAM.

In 2010 they recorded a demo album called Gute Musik , but it was only sold locally. In 2012, the magazine Zeitmagazin reported on SAM's single Liebe zur Musik . The two became known through their mixtape ZweiNullZwölf , which was made available for free download. In autumn 2012 the label Chimperator Productions signed the two newcomers. This was followed by a tour in the opening act of Cro on his Raop tour through Germany, Austria and Switzerland. In 2013 the digital-only- Extended Play Wir was released , which reached number 79 in the German music charts . Of the three songs and two remixes , one track each was produced by Drunken Masters and 7inch .

On February 28, 2014, their debut album Two True Brothers was released . The first single Hello ?! appeared a week earlier. While the single reached number 74, the album reached number 27 in the German charts. This was followed by a Germany tour and two gigs in Austria.

Her second album Kleinstadtkids was released on March 3, 2017 .

On October 19, 2018, the duo released the EP Avision.

On November 9, 2018, the death of Samson Wieland at the age of 27 (28 according to other sources) was reported.

Music genre

At the beginning of their careers shaped by artists like Samy Deluxe and the American rappers like Jay-Z , Method Man and Redman , they began to integrate various influences into their art through their early musical education. SAM's hip-hop today therefore consists of a mix of different influences such as rock , pop , funk and soul , but also Zambian and German folk music . Similar to the music of their label colleagues Cro and Muso , their music is counted as what is known as hipster rap .
