Azores Airlines (previously SATA Internacional ) is a Portuguese airline based in Ponta Delgada on the island of São Miguel in the Azores . It is a subsidiary of SATA and has its home base at Ponta Delgada Airport .

history

The company was founded in 1990 under the name OceanAir . In 1994 the company was taken over by SATA Air Açores and since 1998 has been called SATA Internacional . At the end of 2001 the millionth passenger was welcomed.

In 2010, SATA Internacional received 9.4 million euros from the Portuguese state in return for the flights to and from the islands. In the same year a new corporate design was introduced.

In October 2015, the company took on the name Azores Airlines and changed its corporate design again.

Azores Airlines was the last European airline to use the Airbus A310 as a passenger aircraft. The Airbus A310-300 with the registration CS-TGV flew for the last time from Ponta Delgada to Lisbon on October 15, 2018.

Destinations

Within Portugal, Azores Airlines flies to Funchal on Madeira , Lisbon , Faro and Porto . Destinations across Europe include Frankfurt am Main , Munich (via Porto ), Amsterdam and Zurich . Long-haul flights are currently offered to Toronto , Praia and Boston as well as Montreal and Oakland seasonally . The number of North American connections is due to the large number of Azoreans who have emigrated to North America.

An Airbus A310-300 from what was then SATA Internacional, which was the last European passenger airline to use this type of aircraft until October 2018.
