Sami Kaartinen (born April 7, 1979 in Kouvola ) is a former Finnish ice hockey player who played for the Dresdner Eislöwen in the 2nd ice hockey Bundesliga and DEL2 on the right winger position between 2009 and 2015 .

Career

Sami Kaartinen learned to play ice hockey at his home club SaiPa Lappeenranta and went through all youth teams there. In the 1998/99 season he made his debut in Finland's elite league , the SM-liiga .

In the same and the following season, he also continued to play for the SaiPa junior team. In the 2000/01 season he went on the ice for various teams in Finland's second division, the Mestis . These teams included KooKoo Kouvola , Jokipojat Joensuu and Kiekko-Vantaa . In the following game year he completed 47 mestis games for Vaasan Sport before moving to Hokki Kajaani . There he scored 52 scorer points in 42 games of the Mestis main round. Because of this performance he got a contract with his home club in 2003, but could not meet expectations with ten scorer points from 40 games in the SM-liiga. Therefore, he moved to the Brûleurs de Loups from Grenoble during the main round .

In the summer of 2004 he returned to Finland and was signed by KalPa Kuopio . With his new team he made it to the SM-liiga in 2005 . In addition, the second-best scorer in the main round 2004/05. Kaartinen stayed with KalPa until the end of the 2006/07 season . Via KooKoo Kouvola he came to EHC Olten in 2008 in the National League B , where he was able to convince with 32 scorer points from 25 NLB games. In the 2008/09 season he reached 27 goals and 24 assists in 46 games of the NLB main round.

In the summer of 2009 he dissolved his contract, which would have tied him to the EHC Olten until 2010, and moved to the Dresden Ice Lions in the 2nd ice hockey Bundesliga . There he developed into a leading player and crowd favorite. In December 2014, he suffered a hand injury that made him miss parts of the 2014/15 season and the entire 2015/16 season. In June 2016 he announced his final career end. As the best goalscorer in the history of the club (155 goals in 302 competitive games), his number was blocked by the ice lions.
