The Sandakan District is an administrative district in the Malaysian state of Sabah . The administrative seat is the city of Sandakan . Sandakan District is part of the Sandakan Division area to which Beluran , Kinabatangan , Sandakan, and Tongod districts belong.
Demographics
The district of Sandakan is - based on the number of inhabitants - with 396,290 inhabitants after Kota Kinabalu and Tawau the third largest of the 25 districts of Sabah.
Administrative headquarters
The administrative seat of the district is the city of Sandakan. The administration of the district as well as the city is carried out by the Sandakan Municipal Council ( mal. Majlis Perbandaran Sandakan ). The Sandakan Municipal Council was created on January 1, 1982 by merging the Sandakan Town Board and the Sandakan Rural District Council .

In January 1983, Sandakan was administratively divided into four areas: urban area, suburbs, surrounding areas and sea area.
