Sarah Lahti (temporarily Sarah van der Wielen ; born February 18, 1995 in Klippan ) is a Swedish long-distance runner .

Athletic career

Sarah Lahti gained her first experience at an international championship at the Junior World Championships 2012 in Barcelona , where she was eliminated in the obstacle course as 33rd of the preliminary run. In 2013 she took part in the 3000 meter European Junior Championships in Rieti , but could not finish her run there, as was the 5000 meter run at the 2014 Junior World Championships in Eugene .

In 2016, she qualified for the World Indoor Championships in Portland , where she was eliminated in the 1500 meter run. At the European Championships in Amsterdam , she finished ninth over 10,000 meters. She then took part in the Summer Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro , where she set a new national record over 10,000 meters, finishing twelfth . The national record was improved in 2017 by Meraf Bahta . She won medals for the first time at the 2017 U23 European Championships in Bydgoszcz , Poland . After bronze over 5000 meters, she only had to admit defeat to the superior Turkish Yasemin Can over 10,000 meters . At the World Championships in London , she could not finish her run over 10,000 meters again due to an injury .

In 2016 she became Swedish champion over 5000 meters and in 2013, 2015 and 2016 indoor champion over 3000 meters. In September 2017 she married the Dutch long-distance runner Jesper van der Wielen and then changed her last name. After the separation, she has been back as Sarah Lahti since 2019 .
