The district of Sayapullo is located in the Gran Chimú province in the La Libertad region in western Peru . The district was founded on February 11, 1855. It has an area of ​​238.47 km². The 2017 census counted 6,386 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 8059, in 2007 it was 7993. The administrative seat of the district is the 2357  m high village of Sayapullo with 961 inhabitants (as of 2017). Sayapullo is 41 km east-southeast of the provincial capital Cascas .

Geographical location

The district of Sayapullo is located in the Peruvian Western Cordillera in the far east of the Gran Chimú province. The Río Chuquillanqui (also Río San Jorge) flows west along the northern district boundary . The continental watershed of the Peruvian Western Cordillera runs along the eastern district boundary.

The district of Sayapullo borders in the north on the district Cospán ( province Cajamarca ), in the east on the district Cachachi ( province Cajabamba ), in the south on the district Huaranchal ( province Otuzco ) and in the west on the district Lucma .
