The Scalettahorn (from the Rhaeto-Romanic scaletta ( Davos ) or s-chaletta ( Engadin ), derived from the Latin scala for "ladder" or "stairs") is a mountain between Davos and the Engadin in the canton of Graubünden in Switzerland with a height of 3,068  m ü. M. On the National Map 1: 25,000 is the amount falsely with 3086  m above sea level. M. stated. Because of its extensive view, it is a mountain that is often climbed, both in winter and in summer.

Location and surroundings

The Scalettahorn belongs to the Grialetsch area, a subgroup of the Albula Alps . The municipal boundary between Davos and S-chanf runs above the summit . The Scalettahorn is bordered in the north by the Dischma Valley , in the southeast by the Vallorgia and in the southwest by the extension of the Val Susauna.

The neighboring peaks include the Piz Grialetsch in the east, the Piz Vadret in the southeast, the Chüealphorn in the southwest and the Leidhorn in the northwest.

The scaletta maple is surrounded on all sides by glaciers. To the northeast of the summit is the Scaletta Glacier, to the southeast of the Vadret Vallorgia and on the west side is an unnamed glacier.

Frequent starting points are Dürrboden in the Dischma valley , Susauna in the Engadin and the two SAC huts Chamanna da Grialetsch and Chamanna digl Kesch .

Routes to the summit

Often exceeded after an ascent of Piz Grialetsch or on the Grialetsch circular tour. Particularly worthwhile in connection with a change of hut between Chamanna da Grialetsch and Chamanna digl Kesch.

Summer routes

Over the western slope

Retreated glacier between Scalettahorn and Scalettapass, taken from the ridge.
  • Starting point: Dürrboden ( 2007  m ), Susauna ( 1682  m ) or Chamanna digl Kesch ( 2625  m )
  • Via: Scalettapass , pathless along the foot of the elongated west ridge, after bypassing P. 2933 on the ridge.
  • Difficulty: T4 , L , to the Scalettapass as trail white-red-white highlighted
  • Time required: 3½ hours from Dürrboden, 5 hours from Susauna or 4¼ hours from Chamanna digl Kesch
  • Note: The SAC club guide recommends the route that goes in the middle section between the Scalettapass and the Scalettahorn not over the ridge but over the "Firnfeld". However, this route is no longer recommended as the glacier has retreated significantly and walking on the glacier debris is very arduous.
