Shamchal terms ( Russian Шамхал-Термен ; Kumyk Шавхал-Тирмен ) is a village (selo) in the Republic of Dagestan in Russia with 10,260 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010).

The place is located on the northeastern edge of the Greater Caucasus a good 15 km as the crow flies northwest of the center of the republic capital Makhachkala , 12 km from the coast of the Caspian Sea on the right bank of the Shuraosen River . The October Revolution Canal runs through the village, which, starting from Sulak near Kisiljurt, is used for irrigation and water supply for the cities in the Dagestani coastal plain and was completed on this section up to Makhachkala in 1923.

Schamchal-terms is part of the urban district of Makhachkala and the management of the Rajons Kirowski, one of the three administrative districts of the city, assumed. The place is mostly inhabited by Avars and Kumyks ; The proportion of sheets and darginers is also relatively high .

history

Details of the origin of the place are not known. It existed as a Kumyk village under its current name, Kumyk for Mill of Shamchal , at least towards the end of the 19th century.

In 1970, Shamchal-Termen was almost completely destroyed by an earthquake measuring 6.7 on the Richter scale on May 14, with a large number of aftershocks that lasted until the end of June. The place was rebuilt and grew faster in the last decades as a residential suburb of the big city Makhachkala.

Schamchal-Termen is located on a road that connects the R217 Kawkas (formerly M29; on this section, to Makhachkala, also part of the European route 50 ) , which passes a few kilometers to the south, with the Shamchal settlement, which is almost immediately adjacent to the north . The nearest train station on the Rostov-on-Don  - Makhachkala - Baku route is also located there .
