The Scheienfluh , also called Schijenflue , is an according to Austrian data 2627  m above sea level. A. , according to Swiss 2625  m above sea level. M. high mountain in the Rätikon , a mountain group of the western central Alps .

The summit lies exactly on the state border between the Austrian state of Vorarlberg and the Swiss canton of Graubünden . The mountain belongs to the Sulzfluh group . In the east and northeast it falls in gently sloping walls crisscrossed by carts and crags down to the Tilisunaalpe in the upper Gampadelstal . Westward, however, the vertical Schijenflue impressive has rock walls , the on Graubündner Partnun toward a large geographical dominance have. These west walls give the mountain its mountaineering importance.

From a geological point of view, a tectonic blanket of reef limestone has pushed itself over the subsoil from the north-east during the Alpine mountain formation , which gave the Scheienfluh and the white plate their shape. The Scheienfluh is a mountain that is often visited by climbers and hikers because of the classic alpine routes through the west faces and their easy ascent from the northeast.

Surroundings

The mountain is a good eight kilometers as the crow flies south of the Vorarlberg community Tschagguns in the Montafon Valley and just under 6 km northeast of St. Antönien in Graubünden . To the east the Scheienfluh falls down to the Tilisunaalpe, to the west to the Partnunsee at 1860  m altitude.

The mountain sends pronounced ridges to the north and south. Neighboring mountains in the north are the 2630  m high Weißplatte , also called Wiss Platte , and in the southeast, separated by the Plasseggenpass at 2345  m , the Sarotlaspitze with 2564  m height. The Sulzfluh is a good two and a half kilometers east-northeast across the Patnuntal. Beyond the Vorarlberg Tilisunaalpe lie the Platinaköpfe in an easterly direction .

Bases and paths

There is no information in the literature about a first ascent of the Scheienfluh from the middle of the 19th century, the second (tourist) epoch of the development of the Alps. In 1891, however, the Scheienfluh was climbed by an "Eduard Imhof and companions" over the south ridge from Partnun . It was not until the mid-1950s that climbers ventured through the vertical west face routes in the technical climbing that was customary at the time . The normal route to the Scheienfluh today leads from the northern Weißplatte as a ridge hike over a deeply cut notch to the summit, according to the literature, easy climbing of difficulty UIAA I to the summit. The Tilisunahütte at 2208  m serves as a base . The walking time is a good two hours. The climbing routes in the west face, on the other hand, have difficulties up to UIAA VII + when climbing freely . The base for the west face of the Scheienfluh is Partnun. At the foot of the Schijenfluh west face is the Schijenzahn ( 2372  m ) - a 90 meter high rock needle ( degrees of difficulty: normal route IV, northeast face V, south edge VI +). The Prättigauer Höhenweg long-distance hiking trail runs under the western walls of the Schijenflue.
