The Schlangenbach is an almost 7 km long brook in the area of the municipality of Dittenheim in the Weißenburg-Gunzenhausen district , which flows into the middle Altmühl from the right after an approximately northeastern run near Windsfeld .
geography
Its origin is southwest of Sammenheim at an altitude of around 483 m above sea level. NN at a field lane crossing in the flat northern apron of the Hahnenkamm . After passing under the district roads WUG 26 and WUG 28 before and after the passage of a pond he takes from the south its first major inflow on which arises from several sources on cockscomb-north slope, including one that the Stone groove in the Buck mill arise let, and unite in Sammenheim. Then it crosses Sausenhofen and passes Windsfeld in the west. After a run of a total of about 6.9 km, it flows into the middle Altmühl a little above Windsfeld and opposite the Gunzenhausen village of Unterasbach on a straightened section of the run .
A right inlet north of Sammenheim also feeds from a stone channel southwest of the village near Buckmühle , a later, also right inlet below Sausenhofen is created at the foot of the Yellow Mountain .
The catchment area of the Schlangenbach to the right of the middle Altmühl covers around 14.1 km². In the east it borders on that of this itself and in the south-east on that of the next larger right tributary Dittenheimer Mühlbach . Beyond the only significantly pronounced southern watershed on the Hahnenkamm eaves, the "western" Rohrach runs to Wörnitz near Wechingen . The catchment area of the upstream Altmühl tributary, Wurmbach, borders in the west, and that of the smaller Pflaumfelder Graben in the northwest .
