Lichtenberg Castle

Lichtenberg Castle , also called Lichtenberg Castle , a former nursing court , is a castle in Saalfelden , a municipality in the Austrian province of Salzburg .

The exact time when Lichtenberg Castle was built is unknown; it is first mentioned in documents in 1281. At that time, the castle, which on a spit of the need Steinernes Meer perched 60 meters above Saalfelden, but have already passed, because it is narrated that it Archbishop Friedrich II. Of Walchen after an argument with the sex of Kalhamer had managed the castle Lichtenberg to hand over to his brothers Alberto and Otto von Walchen.

Six years later, however, Archbishop Rudolf claimed this castle again as an archbishop's fief. After 1290, after Gebhard von Felben withdrew his crew from Lichtenberg, the castle was occupied by an archbishop caretaker.

From this time and afterwards, however, it is recorded in various documents that there were differences of opinion between Bishop Konrad von Chiemsee and the Archbishop of Salzburg with regard to the legal claim to Lichtenberg. Historians conclude from this that the castle was built before 1228, at least under the Count of Plain , i.e. before 1249.

From Lichtenberg, the Saalfelden-Lichtenberg nursing court was then administered by an archbishop's official. Caregivers were all members of the Salzburg nobility , such as the Thurn, Hunt or Ramseider.

In 1526 the castle was destroyed in the peasant uprising , but then had to be rebuilt by the judicial community of Saalfelden. In the course of this, it also received the mighty round tower in the southwest and was almost completely new by 1580.

In the following years, actually centuries, the castle came down quite a bit. In 1699 the archbishop wanted to shirk his responsibility for preservation and simply assigned the castle to the region responsible for warfare. This objected to this (but only in 1747) at the state parliament.
