history
We have known who owned the Höch Castle since the 13th century. However, it is unclear whether the Hohenvelde residence mentioned in a document is identical.
In 1608 the castle was sold by the then owner Kölderer to his great-nephew Jocher. Jocher, with the first name Karl, was one of the richest trades in Lungau at the time, and was apparently also involved in the Flachau ironworks. He gave the castle its current hoof-like shape and furnished it richly. When his granddaughter married, the property came into the possession of the Counts of Plaz in 1657 .
Alois Rohrmoser , ski manufacturer in Altenmarkt, bought Höch Castle in 1989, and since 1999 - after its bankruptcy - it has been owned by the Flachau community. The purchase price including the approximately 44.3-hectare property was 28.75 million shillings (€ 2 million). It has been used for cultural purposes since 2002.
