history

The complex was probably built on fortified land by the Lords of Reichenberg at the beginning of the 13th century. The castle was first mentioned in 1271. After it was owned by the Franconian noble families Seinsheim and Hohenlohe , knight Eberhard von Wolfskeel acquired it in 1376 as a fiefdom . Since then the family has been called "Wolfskeel von Reichenberg" after their headquarters. The castle is still owned by descendants, the current owners are Christoph and Karin von Seydlitz- Wolffskeel.

The castle was partially destroyed during the Peasants' War in 1525. Only rudimentary remains of the wall and the base of a round tower have survived from the original fortifications.

In the 17th century the north building was built, in the 18th century the south building of the castle. The two residential buildings have stepped gables and are built in the Renaissance style. The gable and the upper floor of the north building were built in 1615 in half-timbered construction. In addition, the south building has baroque window frames. In addition to the residential buildings, there are several farm buildings around the 400 square meter, trapezoidal inner courtyard. The entire system is by a triangular Bering surrounded.

In 1997 the castle was completely restored. For this, the owners were awarded the monument protection medal of the Bavarian State Ministry for Science, Research and Art .
