The Schmetterling Verlag was founded in 1986 by Jörg Hunger and Paul Sandner in Stuttgart as part of the Third World Movement and was initially conceived as a political publisher . In December 2002 the name was changed to Schmetterling Verlag GmbH , which has been operating the publishing business since then and is managed by Jörg Hunger and Paul Sandner as managing directors.
The butterfly publishing house is u. a. Represented at the Leipzig Book Fair and the Left Literature Fair in Nuremberg as well as a member of the German Book Trade Association . It is connected to the aLiVe publishing house delivery service for left-wing publishers.
