The Schwülme is a 29 kilometers long, right or eastern tributary of the Weser in Lower Saxony and Hesse , Germany .

source

The river rises in the district of Northeim (southern Lower Saxony) in the southeastern foothills of the Solling in the Hardegsen state forest in the area of the mountains Stehberg ( 433  m above sea  level ) and Bramburg ( 461  m ) from several source streams. Their springs or spring pots are located in a forest or floodplain area in the triangle of cities Adelebsen - Hardegsen - Uslar in an area belonging to Hardegsen at an average height of 340  m .

course

The Schwülme initially runs east and a little later south via Hettensen (district of Hardegsen) and Lödingsen (district of Adelebsen) to Adelebsen. Then it bends to the west, absorbs the water of the Auschnippe coming from the south and turns to the northwest. Then the Schwülme runs through Offensen , after which it flows through Verliehausen and passes Ahlbershausen (districts of Uslar); the awl coming from the north joins the two last named places . Thereafter, the flowing water flows to the west, crossing the border to the north Hessian district of Kassel , where it flows through the area of the Wesertal community .

muzzle

Finally, the Schwülme reaches the village of Lippoldsberg (district of Wesertal), continuing westwards , where it is only 107  m above sea level. NN flows into the Weser , which results in a height difference of 233 meters. The Schwülme has an average water flow of 3.5 m³ / s at its mouth.

Mühlbach

About 1.7 kilometers before its confluence with the Weser, the Mühlbach branches off from the Schwülme, which was laid out to operate a mill in Lippoldsberg . The Mühlbach meets the Schwülme again just 140 meters above its mouth.

Catchment area and tributaries

The most important tributary of the Schwülme, whose catchment area covers 290.10 km² (22.07 km² in Hesse), is the Ahle , which rises in Hochsolling and flows along the city of Uslar , coming from the north below or south of the village of Schoningen or between Verliehausen and Ahlbershausen flows into the Schwülme. Another major tributary is the Auschnippe brook coming from the south or from the direction of Dransfeld .
