Schwarzer Berg is a district in the north of Braunschweig . It belongs to the city district 331 - Nordstadt .

history

A parcel “Am Schwarzen Berge” was first mentioned in a document in the 16th century in connection with a lease to the large orphanage in Braunschweig. In the 18th century, mulberry plantations were planted here on an experimental basis to breed silkworms. The area largely belonged to Rühme and was used for agriculture.

In the 1930s, the first smaller single-family houses with large gardens for self-sufficiency were built in this area. It was not until 1964 that the construction of the planned settlement “Am Schwarzen Berge” began, whose homes, terraced houses, apartment blocks and some high-rise buildings, including social infrastructure and local amenities, now make up the district. Braunschweig's tallest residential building with 22 floors is located in the Black Mountain.

Since the 2000s, the area of the Am Schwarzen Berge settlement has had the official status of a district with the name Schwarzer Berg. Thus the Black Mountain is the 38th district of Braunschweig.

Name and field name

The district and the settlement were named after the field names "Der Schwarze Berg" and "Am Schwarzen Berge", the actual origin of which has not been passed down. The thesis is likely that the hill on the eastern bank of the Oker in the district was named after the black pines growing there .

Infrastructure

The sports facility of the local sports club SV Schwarzer Berg eV with over 600 members is in the immediate vicinity. The facility was built in 2001 and is located behind the allotment garden associations Gunther and Schlehenhang, which apply to the Black Mountain. The club offers many sports options, from tennis to soccer, everything is there.

Recreation and sport
  • To the south of the district are the Ölpersee and Oker recreation areas .
  • The city's Eintracht Stadium is located on Hamburger Strasse on the eastern edge .

  • 1 primary school (Schwarzer Berg primary school)

coat of arms

Coat of arms Braunschweig-Schwarzer Berg.png

The coat of arms shows a soaring red lion on a silver shield, which is covered in the lower half by a black elevation above a wavy line. The shield base is also silver.

The lion stands for the city of Braunschweig, as the settlement was only created within the city limits in the 20th century. The elevation naturally reflects the name of the district, while the waterline in the shield base symbolizes the Ölpersee and the Oker, on whose banks the settlement is located.

The coat of arms was designed by Heinz Voigt and approved by the municipal main office on January 19, 1982.
