history
Construction and commissioning
The keel laying of the Seabourn Odyssey with hull number MAR062 took place on July 16, 2007 at the Cimolai shipyard in San Giorgio di Nogaro. During the traditional minting ceremony, a US silver dollar and an Italian 1 euro piece were shrink -wrapped . The hull was created in two halves, which were joined together in Rijeka ( Croatia ) and then towed to the T. Mariotti shipyard in Genoa . There the superstructures were assembled as well as expansion and completion. The test drives at sea began on May 23, 2009 and were completed in mid-June. The christening ceremony took place on June 24th, 2009 in Venice . All passengers who were on board for the maiden voyage acted as godparents . The Seabourn Odyssey is measured at 32,346 GT , making it the smallest cruise ship that was put into service in 2009.
commitment
The first Atlantic crossing with the destination port Port Everglades ( Fort Lauderdale , Florida ), where the ship arrived on the morning of November 10, 2009, followed various Mediterranean cruises . On January 5, 2010, the Seabourn Odyssey set out on its first world cruise, which ended in Piraeus ( Greece ) after 108 days . The shipping company quoted the prices between 39,000 and 363,700 euros.
Machine system and drive
The Seabourn Odyssey is equipped with a diesel-electric machine system that is divided into two independent groups. Four diesel engines drive generators that supply the ship with electrical energy. The turbodiesel engines are 12-cylinder V-engines from the 32 series (B3 configuration) from the Finnish manufacturer Wärtsilä . Each engine has a displacement of approx. 386 liters, the cylinder angle is 55 °. The waste heat from the machine system is used as process heat, among other things, for water treatment . The generators come from VEM Sachsenwerk and develop an output of 6,920 kVA at a voltage of 6,600 volts. Each motor-generator unit has a mass of approx. 110 tons.
The propeller motors are installed spatially separated from the rest of the machinery in the hull and drive via shaft systems each have a Wartsila - 5 leaf fixed propeller on. To avoid pollution of the sea, the propeller shaft bearings are lubricated with sea water.
Cabins and on-board facilities
With a space ratio of 71.9 GT / passenger, the Seabourn Odyssey is very generously designed (for comparison: the space ratio of the Queen Mary 2 is 57.4 GT / passenger). There are 225 external suites on the ship , 90 percent of which have their own veranda and a floor area of 27.5 to 110 m². They have a living and sleeping area and are equipped, among other things, with an entertainment, communication and information system that was developed by Lufthansa Systems. The suites are divided into seven categories:
- Grand Wintergarden Suite
- Wintergarden Suite

There are four different restaurants ("The Restaurant", "The Grill", "The Colonnade" and "Patio Grill") and a coffee bar on board the Seabourn Odyssey . The wellness area extends over an area of over 1,000 m² over two decks. Two pools and several whirlpools are available on the open decks . A special feature is the extendable marina in the stern of the ship.
