The Seelesbach is a 2 km long, approximately northeast running stream in the area of the municipality of Frankenhardt in the district of Schwäbisch Hall in northeastern Baden-Württemberg , which flows from the right into the Buchbach coming from the west near the hamlet of Waldbuch of the municipality .

Surname

On the official waterway map, the left of the two upper reaches of the two upper reaches, which begins on the Kohlsteige, is calculated as the creek on the lower reaches of the Buchbach . However, in contradiction to this, the official topographical map labels the right upper course, which is the more catchment area-rich, on the waterway map and here referred to as Seelesbach - the name probably comes from the dialectal deminutive soul of the word lake  - as Buchbach . Since no remains of a lake dam can be seen anywhere on the Seelesbach-Lauf or a relevant name is given, but the Buchbachlauf crosses a Gewann Schwarzsee and also passes two small ponds near the mouth, the names could also have been mixed up. We are sticking with the naming of the official waterway map.

geography

course

The Seelesbach arises at approx. 472  m above sea level. NHN about 0.6 km west of the Frankenhardt hamlet Spaichbühl and a little over 100 meters south of the junction of the K 2665 to Steinehaig from the L 1064 Vellberg - Schneckenweiler –Spaichbühl at the foot of the slope below the Hahnenberg plateau, which rises almost 30 meters further in the south. It rises in a narrow, uncultivated strip between fields on the left and right, runs irregularly past willow stumps and bushes northwards and crosses under the main road.

On the other side, it flows rushing in a field hedge on the eastern edge of the county road, then turns in an inconspicuous ditch to the northeast and soon flows underground in very flat meadow terrain. He then follows a trenchless dirt road about 300 meters long in this direction, on the other side of the meadow to the right of the ridge of Heaven . Then it bends at a fork in the path on the route of a deep dirt road ditch that has little flow, for the next hundred meters to the left to a hedge running northeastwards between the Wildhölzle tubs on the left and Abendviehhut on the right, where it now runs openly northeast again and his talk heir uses.

After a hundred meters, an equally long, waterless valley branch runs towards this valley leg, which is widening more and more towards the trough. Once again that much further, the hedge that was last only on the left is completely exposed. The Seelesbach now flows long-periodically curved and without any wood on the bank in a ditch-like course on the bottom of its slowly widening and deepening grassland trough to the northeast, at the bend of which there are sometimes individual trees and small hedges.

A hundred meters west of a logging business on the southwestern edge of the hamlet of Waldbuch , which is predominantly on the right plateau, the stream crosses under the K 2666 Steinehaig – Waldbuch. Beyond this, a longer ditch on the left leads to it. The Seelesbach flows more naturally for the next 200 meters under tall trees on the bank at the foot of the southern part of Waldbuch, approximately northwards. Then the gallery stops for the last 200 meters, the valley meadows to the right and left come up to the again only ditch-like run, which slowly approaches the little road from Waldbuch to Bonolzhof , beyond which there are a few houses from Waldbuch at the right foot of the slope. From the last two to three meters deep side ditch of the road it flows, immediately before it passes under the road, from the right and finally south to approx. 434  m above sea level. NHN in the Buchbach coming from the west-southwest , which is a little shorter up to there and has a third less catchment area than the Seelesbach.

The Seelesbach flows after - including the subterranean section - about 2.3 km long course with a mean bottom slope of about 17 ‰ about 38 meters below its origin.

Catchment area

The Seelesbach has a catchment area of around 1.6 km², which in terms of natural space lies in the lower area of the Burgberg Vorhöhen and Speltach Bay of the Swabian-Franconian Forest Mountains . The Buchbach upper course to the tributary of the Seelesbach is almost as long, but has a catchment area of just 1.0 km².

This borders on the northern watershed, that of the lower Buchbach tributary Birkbach briefly on the northeastern one. The neighboring area in the southeast drains up to the Hahnenberg via smaller streams to the Betzenbach , a tributary of the Buchbach receiving water Speltach . The small wedge of the catchment area up there borders in the south on that of the Nesselbach , in the northwest as well as the entire subsequent western watershed on that of the ( Merkelbacher ) Lanzenbach ; the last two drain the Bühler to the Kocher tributary , while the Speltach feeds the Jagst . This section of the entire watershed is hydrologically the most important, because the runoff on both sides only reunites in the Neckar .

The highest point of the area, which extends northeastward and spindle-shaped from there to the mouth, is located at its southwestern tip on the plateau of the Hahnenberg on the Geschäufelte Marsh at about 503  m above sea level. NHN . There is a very small part of the forest there, everywhere else the field is open and consists of grassland, especially close to the source on the Hahnenberg slope and next to the water in its depression, while the higher, sometimes strikingly flat parts of the landscape are mostly under the plow. The only place in the catchment area is the hamlet of Waldbuch at and above the estuary, which is almost entirely within. Close to the source, the right watershed extends as far as the softness of the hamlet of Spaichbühl . The entire catchment area is in the area of the municipality of Frankenhardt .

Tributaries

The Seelesbach has only one noticeable tributary, a road ditch next to the K 2666 Steinehaig – Waldbuch, which is a little west of a timber company on the southern edge of Waldbuch from the left and west-southwest to about 439  m above sea level. NHN flows. It is about 0.8 km long and has a catchment area of less than 0.3 km². It begins at about 455  m above sea level. NHN , only has intermittent water and only runs into a valley on the second half of its way.

geology

The stream and the entire catchment area lie in the Mittelkeuper . Its highest locally occurring layer, the silica sandstone ( Hassberge Formation ), covers the small plateau area around the Geschäufelte Marsh on the Hahnenberg in the southwestern wedge of the catchment area above the source of the stream. On the slope below, the lower colored marl ( Steigerwald Formation ) follow in the steep area and then in the flatter area the reed sandstone ( Stuttgart Formation ), in the transition area to the Gipskeuper ( grave field formation ) the stream rises; the reed sandstone zone continues next to the initially slightly deeper creek trough and ends in the north at the foot of the Kingdom of Heaven .

The gypsum keuper is divided into an upper layer of estheria with a gently sloping terrain profile, which only ends in the area of the underground course on the route of the mentioned field path. Below this, the erosion-resistant, thin corbula layer forms the structure for the wide and flat plain, which accompanies the onset of the talc heir of the re-open course, which gradually widens to the hollow, on the left and right almost to the mouth. Most of the hamlet of Waldbuch stands on it.

In the basin, the stream runs in an initially narrow band of floodplain sediment, it flows into it at the level of the gypsum keuper.

Protected area

A part of the natural monument Geschäufelter swamp on the plateau of the northern Hahnenberg is just in the southwest wedge of the catchment area above the origin of the Seelesbach. The center of the natural monument is a little deep still water surrounded by bushes and then high forest in a former farmer's sand pit, over which dragonflies sometimes stand in summer . The pond drains only periodically southwards over the Hahnenbach to Nesselbach and Bühler.
