Selikum is a district of the city of Neuss in the Rhine district of Neuss .

location

Selikum borders in the north on the intersection of the federal railway line Cologne – Neuss – Krefeld and the A 57 , in the west on the Obererft and in the south on the Erft .

history

Already in 1139 Selikum was known as Sigelinkheim, 1181 as Schleichhin and 1223 as Sylencheim. The Cornelius Chapel was built in the 13th century . Franciscan monks have been overseeing the chapel since 1573. In this place religious built a farm, the Nixhof or Nixhütte. Selikum was first mentioned as a customs office in 1608. The Reuschenberg Castle, located on the Erft, was owned by the von Reuschenberg family from 1536 to 1699 . From 1917 to 1997 the Selikum farmhouse school was housed in the castle. In 1932 some settler houses were built. Between 1963 and 1969, the new Selikum housing estate with 360 homes was built on the previously agricultural land. In the mid-1970s, a petting zoo was built on the municipal farms, which was renamed the Neuss children's farm in 1978 .

Culture

Art on Selikum: is a private initiative that presents art. The photographer Timm Rautert and the painter Neo Rauch could be won as curators for the project . The organizers are Christiane and Lothar Pues , who have already organized exhibitions, readings and concerts in their former place of residence in Essen under the motto “Art in living spaces” without any monetary interest. You acquired the exhibition rooms created by the artist from the late artist Gerhard Hoehme , who was a professor at the Art Academy in Düsseldorf and who paved the way for Informel . At Gut Selikum, they not only invite you to exhibitions, but also to literature readings.

A poem by Norbert Hummelt bears the title selikum and processes memories of the place.
