Serhiy Wolodymyrowytsch Klymentjew ( Ukrainian Сергій Володимирович Климентьєв , Russian Сергей Владимирович Климентьев / Sergei Vladimirovich Klymentjew * 5. April 1975 in Kiev , Ukrainian SSR , Soviet Union ) is a former Ukrainian hockey player who most recently at HK Berkut in the professional hockey league under contract was standing.

Career

In his youth, the Ukrainian played for HK Sokol Kiev in his hometown . In the summer of 1993, Klymentev moved to the Medicine Hat Tigers , who had drawn him in the first round of the CHL Import Draft , in the Western Hockey League , where he played for two years. In the 1994 NHL Entry Draft , he was selected in the fifth round at a total of 121st position by the Buffalo Sabers , for which he never played. Instead, he ran for three years for their farm team , the Rochester Americans , in the American Hockey League . With the Americans he won the Calder Cup in 1996 .

After his contract in Buffalo was not renewed, the defender signed a contract with the Philadelphia Flyers before the 1998/99 season , where he was not considered for the NHL team, but for the Philadelphia Phantoms in the AHL on the ice was standing. The Flyers transferred him to the Nashville Predators in January of the same season , who in turn sent him once again to a farm team, the Milwaukee Admirals , in the International Hockey League .

In 1999 Serhiy Klymentev returned to Russia , where he joined Ak Bars Kazan and won the Russian runner-up. After just one year he left the team for North America and played seven games for the Houston Eros in the IHL before returning to Russia and signing a contract with HK Metallurg Magnitogorsk .

After four seasons in Magnitogorsk, which were marked by winning the Russian championship in 2004, he returned to Kazan for two years. There he won another championship title in 2006. From 2006 to 2009 engagements with the Russian teams HK MWD Tver , HK Awangard Omsk , Torpedo Nizhny Novgorod and Salawat Yulayev Ufa followed , before he left the Continental Hockey League before the 2009/10 season and moved to Belarus . There he joined the HK Sokol Kiev , with which he was Ukrainian champion in 2009 and 2010 . In June 2010 he initially joined the newly founded KHL participant HK Budiwelnik Kiev. After he could not start playing in the KHL due to delays in the stadium renovation, the Ukrainian stayed with Sokol Kiev in the Belarusian extra league. From 2011 he played with the team in the newly formed professional hockey league . In 2012 he moved to HK Berkut within this league . When he had to cease playing for financial reasons after winning the main round of the 2012/13 season, Klymentjew ended his career.

International

Klymentjew represented his native Ukraine for the first time at the Junior C World Championship in 1993 internationally. After successfully qualifying for the same, the team rose to the B group at the end of the tournament. The defender was voted best of the entire tournament. It was the only international appearance for the following years since he moved to the United States .

In the seniors, Klymentev played for the first time at the 1999 World Cup . Since then, he has always been part of the Ukrainian squad until 2012 - with the exception of the 2004 World Cup . He also played at the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City and in the second qualifying round for the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver and 2014 in Sochi .

At the U20 World Cup in 2018 , he was assistant coach of the Ukrainian juniors in group B of Division I.
