Serhij Hennadijowytsch Arbusow ( Ukrainian Сергій Геннадійович Арбузов ; Russian Сергей Геннадьевич Арбузов ; born March 24, 1976 in Donetsk ) is a Ukrainian businessman, economist and politician . From January 28 to February 22, 2014, he was the first deputy prime minister and acting head of government of Ukraine.

Arbusow studied economics at the Donetsk University , and in the 2000s he worked for PrivatBank , among others . In 2005 he was a member of the Our Ukraine party ( Narodnyj Soyuz "Nascha Ukrajina" ) of then President Viktor Yushchenko for a short time .

In December 2010, President Viktor Yanukovych proposed him as the new President of the National Bank of Ukraine ; At the time of his appointment, Arbusov was the youngest chairman of a European central bank . In December 2012, he was appointed First Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine in the newly formed cabinet of Mykola Azarov . Arbusov is considered a close confidante of Yanukovych and a friend of his son Oleksandr . When Prime Minister Mykola Azarov resigned from his post on January 28, 2014 after continuing protests against the government , Arbusov took over his official duties on a temporary basis.

After the overthrow of President Yanukovych, he and other protagonists of his regime, including Serhiy Arbusov, were expelled from the Party of Regions on March 29 by a party congress resolution. On April 15, 2014 , the EU imposed measures against Arbusov on suspicion of misappropriation of state funds . Among other things, he no longer has access to his accounts in the EU. According to media reports, Arbusov fled to Russia after the fall of Yanukovych .
