In 1832 the area of ​​today's parish was ceded to the US government by the Indians of the Menominee tribe . This was followed by settlement with European immigrants who founded several localities. The population grew rapidly, so that in 1900 the village of East Milwaukee was incorporated as an independent municipality. In 1917 the parish was renamed Shorewood .
