Siegfried Vogel (born March 6, 1937 in Chemnitz ) is a German opera singer ( bass ).

Life

At the age of 18 he received singing lessons in Dresden , which was followed by studies at the University of Music in that city. He also made his debut there as Zizell in If I Were King by Adolphe Adam . After he was discovered by Hans Pischner , he came to the Berlin State Opera in 1965 . In particular , he sang roles in the Mozart operas ( Figaro's wedding , Don Giovanni , Così fan tutte ) and many others. But he was also heard in the world premieres of “Lanzelot” by Paul Dessau and “Joe Hill” by Alan Bush .

Numerous guest appearances abroad have taken him to Moscow ( Bolshoi Theater ), Paris ( Grand opéra ), Lausanne , Strasbourg ( Opéra national du Rhin ), Brussels , Vienna , Salzburg , Milan ( Teatro alla Scala ), Venice , Stockholm , Helsinki , Amsterdam , Budapest , Cairo , Nice , Palermo ( Teatro Massimo ) and New York ( Metropolitan Opera ).

In Bayreuth from 1982 to 1989 he sang “ Biterolf ” in Tannhäuser , “ Heinrich der Vogler ” in Lohengrin , “Fasolt” in Rheingold and “Titurel” in Parsifal . In the film Orpheus in the Underworld , he dubbed the song of Jupiter.

Vogel was also considered an excellent concert and oratorio bassist, especially as an interpreter of the works of JS Bach and GF Handel .
