Sieglinde Bräuer , married Plattner , (born September 13, 1942 in Bad Hofgastein , † February 19, 2012 in Piesendorf ) was an Austrian ski racer . She achieved numerous victories and podiums in international races and finished eighth in the slalom of the 1962 World Cup . In the last year of her career she started for Germany .

Career

Sieglinde Bräuer came to ski racing through her father, who was an avid ski racer himself in the 1930s. At the national level, Bräuer's first successes were evident when she won a total of nine Austrian youth championship titles from 1956 to 1960. The then 16-year-old first attracted attention internationally in the winter of 1958/1959, when she won her first FIS race in the Innsbruck slalom and came second in the slalom in Crans-Montana and the giant slalom in Kirchberg and Albertville . In the following winter, Bräuer was only able to take part in a few races due to a broken leg. She remained without a top international result, but in addition to her successes at the Austrian youth ski championships , she won two Salzburg state championship titles in slalom and combined. In the following years she achieved numerous other victories and podium places in international races, but mostly in less well-attended FIS-B races. In the 1960/1961 season, Bräuer made it onto the podium four times, including second in the Chamonix slalom and the Arosa giant slalom . She also stood on the podium for the first time at the Austrian Championships. By 1965 she got a total of four second and five third places in the national championships, but no victory. Only in 1964 did she win a giant slalom, which was held as a replacement for the downhill, but was only part of the combination.

In the winter of 1961/1962, Bräuer qualified with two podium places (second place in the slalom of the Staufen Cup in Oberstaufen and third place in the slalom of the Silberkrugrennen in Bad Gastein ) for the 1962 World Championship in Chamonix , where it only started in the slalom and reached eighth place. In the 1962/1963 season she won the slalom of the Toni Mark memory race in Zell am See and achieved four podium places, for the first and only time in a descent. In the winter of 1963/1964 Bräuer won a slalom on Mount Etna . Further podium places are achieved in slalom and giant slalom at Puerto de Navacerrada . A possible start at the Olympic Winter Games in 1964 , however, prevented an injury that she had suffered shortly before.

In addition to victories at the Salzburg state championships in slalom, giant slalom and combination, Bräuer celebrated her greatest successes in the “Nordland Tour” in Scandinavia in the 1964/1965 season : she won slalom and giant slalom in Åre , giant slalom and combination in Gällivare and the giant slalom in Narvik . Within the team of the Austrian Ski Association , however, she no longer belonged to the first group. Since qualification for the 1966 World Cup within the Austrian team did not seem possible, Bräuer decided to switch to the German Ski Association in 1965 . At that time, Bräuer attended the hotel management school in Bad Reichenhall in Bavaria , which enabled her to change countries. Now starting for Germany, in the winter of 1965/1966 Bräuer scored two victories in the slalom in Zell am See and in the giant slalom in Saalfelden in addition to several podium places . However , she did not take part in the World Cup in Portillo , Chile , which was held during the European summer , as she had already ended her career due to pregnancy.
