The type 81 is a container feeder vessel type of Sietas in Neuenfelde .

history

The Blue Sky M (formerly Seefalke )

The series was commissioned by various shipping companies from the early 1970s. From the end of 1973 to spring 1977, 22 units were built, several of them at the Norderwerft which Sietas took over in 1972 . The Type 81 was initially used primarily on European container delivery services, where it soon became a standard ship, as well as in timber transport. Today you can find the few remaining and partly rebuilt ships worldwide in coastal travel.

The Blue Sky M was brought into Gallipoli on December 31, 2014 with 970 mostly Syrian refugees on board units of the Italian Coast Guard , after the crew had left the ship in the Strait of Otranto . The Youzarsif H (formerly Jan Kahrs ), which had been converted into a cattle truck , collided on April 27, 2017 in the Black Sea with the Russian reconnaissance ship Liman , which subsequently sank.

technology

The Anund (formerly Odin )

The Type 81 ships were built in section and have ice-reinforced hulls. No sub-types are distinguished within the series, although the units sometimes have different transport capacities and differently designed deckhouses . The two box-shaped holds of the first ships produced had a grain volume of around 4,450 m³, those of the ships built later around 4,750 m³. The cargo holds are equipped for the transport of containers and hazardous goods containers, but the standard equipment with cell guides was dispensed with. Due to the shape of the holds, this type of ship can also be used in cellulose or parcel wood transport. In addition, the tank roof is reinforced for stowing heavy goods . Hydraulically operated folding hatch covers reinforced with heavy cargo were used. The first ships of the series had a container capacity of 143 20-foot standard containers (TEU), later units of 150 TEU or alternatively 72 40-foot standard containers plus five TEU. The capacity of individual ships was subsequently increased to up to 165 TEU through modifications.

The Type 81 ships are powered by four-stroke diesel engines from various manufacturers, which on some ships have a reversing gear on a fixed propeller, but on the majority of ships they act on a variable pitch propeller . The berthing and casting off maneuvers are supported by a bow thruster .

All ships of the series were delivered to the shipyard without loading gear . The Hove , Elbstrom and Jacob Becker each received two movable 12-tonne cranes that were dismantled from all three ships in the 1980s. In the 1990s, the former Elbstrom was again equipped with two movable cranes, which it then kept permanently. The Baltic Sea (formerly Carina ) was converted into a LoRo ship in 1989 by installing a side port and a 25-tonne crane . The Nautilus was converted from May to July 1996 in Santander for the transport of carbon dioxide to the liquefied gas tanker Hydrogas III , three other ships were subsequently converted into cattle transporters . In autumn 2008, the DK Group had the former Osteclipper at the Gryfia shipyard in Stettin equipped as a test ship ACS Demonstrator with an air lubrication system (Air Cavity System).
