Sigrid Martikke (born October 8, 1936 in Magdeburg ) is a German- Austrian opera and operetta singer ( soprano ).

Life

Sigrid Martikke initially trained as a dental assistant before having her voice trained in Berlin and later in Vienna . She received her first engagement at the theater of Lutherstadt Wittenberg . Later she sang as an apprentice with Walter Felsenstein at the Komische Oper Berlin . Engagements at the Biel Solothurn Theater and the Graz Opera House followed . In 1971 she made her debut in Graz as Countess in The Marriage of Figaro .

Sigrid Martikke made a guest appearance in 1969 as Countess Mariza in the operetta of the same name by Emmerich Kálmán at the Vienna Volksoper and was a permanent member of the ensemble in the Haus am Währinger Gürtel from 1973 to 1996. In 1982 she was awarded the title of Chamber Singer . In 1985 Sigrid Martikke made a guest appearance in Japan with the ensemble of the Vienna Volksoper . On this tour, she sang Countess Zedlau in Viennese blood and Hanna Glawari in The Merry Widow . At the Vienna Volksoper she was seen in numerous roles, including as Pamina and 1st Lady in Die Zauberflöte , as Baroness Gondremarck in Pariser Leben , as Giulietta in Hoffmann's Tales , as Rosalinde in Die Fledermaus and as Sylva Varsecu in Die Csárdásfürstin .

For many years Sigrid Martikke sang in the performance series at the Theater an der Wien , the Hanna Glawari in there first performed The Merry Widow with partners such as Johannes Heesters , Harald Serafin or Curt Malm . In recent years Martikke has been at the Vienna Volksoper as Adelaide in The Bird Trader , Anhilte in Die Csárdásfürstin , Princess Bozena in Countess Mariza , as Sister Sophie in The Sound of Music , as Peronella in Boccaccio , as Palmyra in The Opera Ball and Mrs To experience Pearce in My fair lady .

In 2003 she appeared at the Bregenz Festival as the landlady in Leoš Janáček's The Cunning Little Vixen .

In 2006 the artist celebrated her 50th stage anniversary following a Boccacio performance. Sigrid Martikke is still artistically active today. In the 2008/2009 season, Sigrid Martikke was again on the stage of the Vienna Volksoper as Golde in Anatevka .

Guest appearances have taken her to numerous European opera houses. In the role of Hanna Glawari , she made guest appearances in Great Britain , France , Switzerland , Italy , Holland , Belgium and Israel .

Recordings with her include Viktoria and her Husar , Wiener Blut or One Night in Venice .
