Silke Schmidt

Silke Schmidt (born August 7, 1959 in Mettmann ) is a German literary translator and athlete .

Life

Silke Schmidt, born in Mettmann , studied Romance languages ​​at the Bergische Universität Wuppertal . After various positions in Germany, Austria and the Netherlands, she has lived in Leiden, the Netherlands, since 1999 .

Literary translator

Schmidt is a translator for English , French and Dutch . She mainly translates children's and youth literature , as well as adult and non-fiction literature. Her translation by Kaat Vrancken, Anna and the thing with love , was nominated in 2000 for the German Youth Literature Prize.

Schmidt has been running medium and long-distance running as a competitive sport since the early 2000s . She achieved great success in numerous national and international championships in the master class . A large number of German, European and world records were improved by them. In 2014 she was voted German Masters Athlete of the Year by the German Athletics Association . In 2015 she was voted European Best Master by the European Athletics Federation and World Best Master by the World Athletics Federation .
