Smolov (German Schmolau ) is a part of the municipality of Bělá nad Radbuzou in Okres Domažlice in West Bohemia in the Czech Republic .
Geographical location
Smolov (Schmolau) is about three and a half kilometers west of Bělá nad Radbuzou (German: Weißensulz) slightly above the valley of the Radbuza . Here the Huťsky potok (German: Karlbach) flows into the Radbuza.
history
Schmolau was first mentioned in 1628 and in 1789 belonged to the Fideikommissherrschaft Heiligenkreuz . In 1839 Schmolau had 39 houses with 312 residents, a school, a brick kiln and a tar smelter. The village also included the Bärentanz in the forest, the hunter's house belonging to the Hostauer lordship, the stately Neuhof dairy, the Hammelhof sheep farm, the Neuhofer mill with a board saw on the Radbuza and the following mirror loops on the Radbuza between Plattenberg (Czech: Zvon) and Schafberg (Czech: Mufloni vrch):

as well as two hammer loops with an attic house and residential building for the workers.
In 1913 the community of Schmolau had a three-class elementary school built in 1890 with 174 children, two inns, a butcher, a blacksmith, a shoemaker, a wagner, three carpenters, a shop, a consumer and the three mills Pallermühle, Rosenmühle and the art mill at the front Schwarzweiher . The place Schmolau had 42 houses and 311 inhabitants that year. The census of December 1, 1930 reports the following result for Schmolau:

In 1937 the community Schmolau had 1,491 hectares, of which 1,063.88 hectares were forest, 198.07 hectares of fields, 155.41 hectares of meadows, 37.73 hectares of pastures and 5.89 hectares of gardens.
After the Munich Agreement , Schmolau was added to the German Empire and belonged to the Bischofteinitz district until 1945 .

The Smolov cadastral district includes the localities Karlova Huť, Nový Dvůr and Smolov.
Culture and sights
The Way of St. James Prague - Tillyschanz comes from Nový Dvůr, about one kilometer to the east . After Smolov, it continues in a westerly direction to Karlova Huten, 2.5 km away . It is marked with I24 and is called Svatojakubská cesta in Czech.
