Vic & Mel were hand inspired in the official logo of the 20th Summer Deaflympics. "Vic" was named after the province of Victoria, where Melbourne is located, and "Mel" after the city of Melbourne.
They symbolize the hands of friendship, the top athletes, families and friends of the Deaflympics. The mascots of the Summer Deaflympics 2005 represent the athletes who treat each other with respect in the spirit of fair play .
The colors of Vic & Mel symbolize the diversity of Australia and express the warmth and friendliness of Australian culture.
