Sophie of Saxony (1587–1635)
Sophie von Sachsen (born April 29, 1587 in Dresden , † December 9, 1635 in Stettin ) was a Saxon princess from the house of the Albertine Wettins and by marriage Duchess of Pomerania-Stettin .
Life
Sophie was a daughter of Elector Christian I of Saxony (1560–1591) from his marriage to Sophie (1568–1622), daughter of Elector Johann Georg von Brandenburg.
She married Duke Franz von Pommern-Stettin (1577-1620) in Dresden on August 26, 1610 . No children were born in the marriage. As Wittum , the office of Wollin was determined for Sophie , which Duke Franz had assessed for this purpose and which she administered after the death of her husband. The difficult time of the Thirty Years' War fell during her reign . From 1622 to 1626 a new castle was built for them in Wollin, as the previous princely house had fallen into disrepair.
After the Duchess's death, the office reverted to Duke Bogislaw XIV of Pomerania . All movable property, such as furniture and grain supplies, were confiscated by the Kingdom of Sweden, as Sophie came from the Saxon Kurhaus, which Sweden had viewed as an enemy since the Peace of Prague .
Sophie was initially buried in the royal crypt in Stettin, but her body was transferred to the Sophienkirche in Dresden in 1650 .
