Incorporations
In 1926 the municipalities of Arensch , Berensch , Duhnen , Groden , Gudendorf , Holte, Insel Neuwerk , Oxstedt , Sahlenburg , Spangen, Stickenbüttel , Süder- and Westerwisch became part of the Hamburg rulership . With the Greater Hamburg Act from 1 April 1937 were the municipalities Arensch, Berensch, Gudendorf, Oxstedt, Sahlenburg, Holte and bracelets on the county Hadeln , district of Stade of the Prussian province of Hannover .
On July 1, 1963, Holte-Spangen and Sahlenburg merged to form a single community. Seven years later, on June 1, 1970, this joint community was dissolved again and the two places Holte-Spangen and Sahlenburg became districts of the city of Cuxhaven.

The design of the municipal coat of arms of Holte-Spangen comes from the heraldist and coat of arms painter Albert de Badrihaye , who designed around 80 coats of arms in the district of Cuxhaven. The coat of arms was approved by the district president in Stade in June 1966.
